Caravan parks in Adelaide range from beachfront sites on Gulf St Vincent to riverside and city-fringe parks a few kilometres from the CBD 234. This guide covers six of them: two on the beach, two close to the city, one at Hahndorf in the Adelaide Hills and one near Port Willunga on the Fleurieu coast.
Each entry sticks to what the park's own website says about its sites and its pet rules, along with what is close by. Names and operators change, so check the park again before you book: the riverside park at Vale Park, for one, now trades as Levi Adelaide Holiday Park and was formerly Levi Caravan Park 4.
How to choose caravan parks in Adelaide
The six parks below suit different rigs and different trips. Before you book, run through these points with the park's own page open:
- Site length. Sites vary a lot in size. At Aspen Holidays' Adelaide Caravan Park in Hackney, powered sites range from 5 m to 15 m 3. At Discovery Parks Hahndorf, the standard powered sites take rigs up to 8.2 m long, and the drive-through sites take rigs up to 12.2 m 67.
- Pets. Levi Adelaide Holiday Park and Brighton Beachfront Holiday Park both take small dogs with the manager's approval, which you ask for when you book 42. BIG4 Port Willunga Tourist Park takes dogs on selected sites and in selected cabins only 9.
- Campfires. Discovery Parks says campfires are not permitted at its Adelaide Beachfront and Hahndorf parks from 1 November 2026 to 30 April 2027, and that the park manager may ban them outside those dates when the fire risk is high 15.
- Reception hours. Aspen's Adelaide Caravan Park lists reception hours of 8:30am to 5pm every day, so tell the park if you will arrive late 3.
- Getting around without the van. Levi has a bus stop a short walk from the park, and Brighton Beachfront is a 15-minute walk from the Seacliff train line 42.
If you are still choosing a van for the trip, compare the lengths of camper trailers and pop-top caravans on Caravan Domain with the site sizes of the parks you like.
Beachfront caravan parks in Adelaide
Both parks below are right on the beach, so you can leave the van set up and walk to the water 12.
Discovery Parks Adelaide Beachfront, beside the beach
Discovery Parks Adelaide Beachfront is on Military Road at Semaphore Park, and its page puts the beach on your caravan's doorstep 1. The park has a swimming pool and a bouncing pillow for children, plus a camp kitchen and a dump point for emptying your van's tanks 1. It says it is a short drive from maritime and railway museums, as well as an aviation museum, for a day away from the beach 1. Equipment hire and an activity room are on its list of features too 1.
Brighton Beachfront Holiday Park, for fishing and coastal walks
Brighton Beachfront Holiday Park is on Burnham Road at Kingston Park, set right on the beach and looking out over Gulf St Vincent 2. It offers beachfront powered sites as well as grassed and slab sites, and its facilities include a camp kitchen and a nine-hole mini golf course 2.
The beach north of the park is sandy, while the rocky shore to the south suits fishing and snorkelling, and children can spend hours in its rock pools 2. The park says whiting and flathead are among the local catches, and that raking for blue crabs is a popular pastime in summer 2. For a meal out, it suggests the Seacliff Surf Club or the Seacliff Beach Hotel 2. Brighton Jetty is an easy two-kilometre walk away, and a coastal walking track leads to Glenelg 2. The park's page also points to the nearby Tjilbruke Monument and lookout, which it says marks the beginning of the Dreamtime Trail 2.
Caravan parks close to the Adelaide CBD
If you want the city's sights without moving the van each day, these two parks are the closest picks in this guide.
Adelaide Caravan Park, at Hackney
Aspen Holidays' Adelaide Caravan Park is on Richmond Street at Hackney, just 2 km from the heart of the city 3. The park names Adelaide Zoo and the Adelaide Botanic Gardens among the nearby sights, along with Adelaide Oval, and for shopping it points to Adelaide Central Market and Rundle Mall 3. Its powered sites are gravel, mostly shaded by tall trees, and listed as dog friendly, although the park's villas are not 3. It also has a swimming pool and a camp kitchen 3.
Levi Adelaide Holiday Park, on the riverbank
Levi Adelaide Holiday Park is on Harris Road at Vale Park, on the banks of the River Torrens, and the park puts the CBD 4 km away, about a 10-minute drive 4. It has ensuite powered sites 4. Its gravel and grassed powered sites take caravans and motorhomes of all sizes, as well as camper trailers 4. Facilities include a heated swimming pool and a camp kitchen, and families get a children's playground and a tennis court 4.
The park's heritage apartments are in Vale House, a home built in the mid-1850s that is listed on the South Australian Heritage Register and has been converted into four apartments 4. For a day in town, the park says a bus stop a short walk away has a direct route to the CBD, or you can walk about 15 minutes along the river to the O-Bahn busway 4.
Hahndorf and the Adelaide Hills
Discovery Parks Hahndorf is on Mount Barker Road at Hahndorf, which the park puts a 20-minute drive from Adelaide's CBD 5. Its grassed, terraced powered sites take rigs up to 8.2 m long 6. The drive-through sites take rigs up to 12.2 m and suit larger rigs and drivers who would rather not reverse into a site 7. Dogs are okay on both site types, and the park has a swimming pool and conference facilities 675.
The town is worth the stop in its own right. The Hahndorf State Heritage Area page from South Australia's Department for Environment and Water says Hahndorf was established in 1839 and is Australia's oldest surviving German settlement, 28 km south-east of Adelaide 8. Its first settlers were Lutheran families who left Prussia to escape religious persecution and reached Port Adelaide in 1838 aboard the Zebra 8. They named the town Hahndorf after the ship's captain, to thank him for his help 8.
The department notes that the town's layout blends the farmlet and street village patterns of historical Prussian planning 8. The heritage area is centred on Main and Victoria Streets, where early buildings show a distinctive German influence, so park the van and explore the main street on foot 8.
Port Willunga and the Fleurieu coast
BIG4 Port Willunga Tourist Park is on Tuitt Road at Aldinga, just an hour from Adelaide and 10 minutes from the vineyards of McLaren Vale 9. It is close to Port Willunga Beach, and its sites include powered and ensuite sites 9. The park has a new heated pool and a giant jumping pillow, along with a camp kitchen and a tennis court 9. It also lists a games room and mini golf, and there is a convenience store on site 9. There is a pet-friendly cabin with a fenced garden, but visitors' pets are not allowed 9.
Port Willunga's beach has a darker past. According to the History Trust of South Australia, the Star of Greece, loaded with more than 16,000 bags of wheat for Great Britain, was wrecked off a reef 200 metres from Port Willunga on Friday 13 July 1888 10. Built in 1868, she was a three-masted, full-rigged iron ship of 1,227 tons 10. The wreck happened so close to shore that many locals stood helpless on the beach 10. There was no rescue equipment on shore, and 17 of the 28 crew died 10. Survivors were taken to the Seaview Hotel at Port Willunga for treatment and shelter 10. The dead were buried at the Aldinga Cemetery on 15 July 1888, and residents soon put a granite obelisk over the mass grave 10. Afterwards the Marine Board was heavily criticised for its response, and more than 1,000 people protested in Port Adelaide against government cuts to rescue services 10.
If the story draws you in, the ship's figurehead, the bust of a Grecian noblewoman, was later donated to the Port Adelaide Nautical Museum 10. The History Trust says the South Australian Maritime Museum now has the largest figurehead collection in the Southern Hemisphere, which makes a good pairing with a stay at Semaphore Park 10.
Planning your Adelaide caravan stay
A few planning points apply to every park in this guide.
- Book the beach parks first. If your dates fall in the school holidays or on a long weekend, book the two beachfront parks before the city parks.
- Plan around the fire season. The campfire ban dates above run through the warmer months, so pack a gas cooker rather than relying on a fire 15.
- Use the parks' own transport links. Levi's bus stop and O-Bahn walk and Brighton's train line make it easy to leave the tow vehicle parked for a day in the city 42.
- Check the rig before the Hills. Hahndorf is up in the Adelaide Hills, so check your brakes and tyres before you hitch up for it 8.
Towing to and around Adelaide
Match the site to your rig first, using the site sizes above, then make sure the tow vehicle and the van suit each other.
Caravan Domain's tow match tool takes your vehicle's braked towing capacity and towball limit, then shows the caravans whose ATM sits within your rating. If you are thinking of upgrading before your next trip, you can also sell your caravan on Caravan Domain, and our guide to buying and selling safely covers scams and safe payment in a private sale.
