Buying a caravan or RV
How do I contact a seller?
Use the enquiry form on the ad. Your message is sent to the seller by email and your email address is not shown to them unless you choose to share it. If the seller has added a phone number, you can reveal it with a click; some reveals ask for a quick check by text message first, to keep scammers away from sellers.
How do I know an ad is genuine?
Every ad is checked before it goes live, but no check replaces your own. See the van in person before you pay anything, check the VIN on it against the registration papers and run a PPSR search on the VIN. Our safety tips list the scams to watch for.
What is a PPSR check and do I need one?
A PPSR search against the VIN shows whether a lender has a security interest recorded against the vehicle and usually its written-off and stolen status. Run it on the day of the sale or the day before, especially when you buy privately.
Why can't I see the VIN on a damaged van?
The VIN is available to buyers on every damaged ad through the "Show VIN" button. We keep the full number off public pages so it cannot be harvested to give a stolen vehicle a false identity, and we limit how many VINs one person can reveal. The one exception is a dealer's ad: only a dealer's ad shows it, and only where the dealer's state requires it.
Can I get finance through Caravan Domain?
No. We are a classifieds site and do not arrange finance. Our loan repayment calculator gives a rough idea of repayments so you can talk to a lender with a budget in mind.
Selling a caravan or RV
What does it cost to sell my van?
Private ads cost $23 a month for Basic or $35 a month for Premium, and you can cancel at any time. Basic includes up to 5 photos. Premium includes up to 30 photos, a video, featured placement for the life of the ad and the PPSR-checked badge. You pay for your first month when you submit your ad, and the month starts then.
Can I upgrade from Basic to Premium?
Yes. You can upgrade a Basic ad to Premium at any time and pay only the difference for the rest of the month. Premium applies as soon as it is paid, and the ad renews at the Premium price from the next month.
What add-ons can I buy?
A bump costs $9 and moves your ad, Basic or Premium, back to the top of the results once, or you can buy five for $19. A Featured spot costs $19 for 14 days and is offered on Basic ads, because a Premium ad is already featured for the life of the ad. All add-ons are optional and show their price before you pay.
How long does my ad stay up, and how do I cancel?
For as long as you keep it. The listing renews each month while the ad is live, and we email you before each renewal with one-click links to confirm the van is still for sale, mark it sold or cancel. If you cancel, the ad stays up until the end of the month you have paid for. Marking the van as sold stops the renewal.
What happens if a renewal payment fails?
We try the payment again and email you. If it still fails, the ad is paused until the renewal is paid, and paying it brings the ad back for the rest of that month. A renewal paid only after its month has ended is refunded in full, because that month can no longer be used; to bring the ad back, pay the current month's renewal. We never delete an ad because a payment failed.
Can I sell a damaged or written-off van?
Yes. List it in the damaged category, choose whether it is sold whole, for parts, or as not for use on public roads, and give its written-off status and the VIN or chassis number. Rules about re-registering written-off vehicles differ by state.
What happens if my ad is rejected?
If we can't approve your ad, we'll tell you why so you can fix it. If a rejected ad is deleted instead, we refund what you paid for it in full. You can edit the ad and send it back within 14 days, or before your first paid month ends if that is sooner. Each time we reject an ad that has not yet been live, you get at least 3 days to fix it, except after the third time you send it back once your first paid month has ended. If your time to fix it runs past the end of your first paid month, your listing is not renewed while you fix it: we charge your second month only when the fixed ad goes live, and that month starts then. After your first paid month has ended you can send it back up to 3 times. You can delete it yourself while it stands rejected, and if it has not been fixed by the end of that time, or we still can't approve it after the third time, we delete it; either way, we refund you. If the payment for the second month fails, we try again and email you; if it is still unpaid 7 days after our first try to take it, the ad ends without a refund. An ad that has not yet been live never renews: if it is still waiting for our first decision on it since you last paid for it when the first paid month ends, we delete it and refund you in full. An ad you have fixed and sent back to us after we rejected it in that paid month waits for our decision instead. If we are still waiting for more information we asked you for, it ends without a refund, as if you had withdrawn it. Deleting an ad you have sent back to us, before we decide on it again, is an ordinary cancellation. This applies to an ad that has not yet been live.
Why was my ad held for checking?
Our automated checks hold an ad when something needs a person to look at it, for example contact details in the description or photos that also appear in another seller's ad. The notice tells you it was an automated check, and you can ask for a person to review it straight away.
What do I need to hand over when I sell?
It depends on your state. In some states the seller must supply a roadworthy or safety certificate, and in all of them you should lodge a notice of disposal once the van is sold.
Dealers
Can dealers list on Caravan Domain?
Yes. Caravan and RV dealers, wreckers and salvage traders can list stock by hand, by spreadsheet or, on higher plans, by an automatic feed. Start on the dealer sign-up page.
What does it cost to advertise as a dealer?
The Starter option is $9 per listing, no monthly fee. Monthly plans start at $99 a month for the Standard plan, with Pro at $149 a month and Group at $299 a month. Our dealer terms list what each plan includes.
Why does my licence number appear on every ad?
State laws require dealer ads to show licence details. If you gave us your licence number, we add them to every one of your ads automatically in the form each state requires, so you never have to remember, and you cannot remove them. A dealer that joined without a licence number has none on its ads.
How do you check dealers?
We check that the ABN is active and matches the business name, and we check the licence against the state register before a dealer account is verified. If a dealer joined without a licence number, we check the business against its declaration instead. Dealers must tell us when their licence details change.
Can I cancel a dealer plan?
Yes, at any time from your billing page. The plan stays active until the end of the month you have paid for. We email a reminder seven days before every renewal.
